Public Art Mural Unveiling
Thurs., May 16 - 5:00pm-6:00pm - PCC, AA Bldg
RISING TIDES: Facing the Waves of Social & Environmental Change is the title of a new interior public art mural to be unveiled on the LBCC Pacific Coast Campus. The inspirational design is the vision of 3B Collective, a group of indigenous and Chicano artists whose work focuses on issues of environment and social justice. This work is inspired by their research into the history of Long Beach and its port, and delves into the displacement of indigenous communities, the struggles and triumphs of marginalized groups, the effects of trade, military presence, oil extraction, and much more. The central figure is inspired by a portrait of Dolores Huerta as a young activist, symbolizing unity and resilience. The unveiling will take place on Thurs., May 16, 5-6pm, in the AA Bldg. corridor (hallway outside AA101), PCC. Everyone is welcome!
