Women’s History Month Kickoff

Join us as we kick off Women’s History Month with food, student choir performance, and keynote speakers whose focus will be on “Women and Work”.

Los Angeles County Commission for Women’s Resilience Scholarship

This unique scholarship seeks women pursuing a formal education despite overcoming personal hardships. The applicant’s primary criteria are official residence in LA County and enrollment at a university, community college, or trade school. Applicants can attend an institution anywhere in CA or out-of-state if their official address remains in LA County. The applicant can apply up to three times, and the funds are awarded directly to the student for direct and indirect education expenses. It is supplemental money above and beyond the campus’s financial aid award. This year, the scholarship award is $1500.

One Spark! Student Art Contest: A Tribute to the Life and Legacy of Dorothy Pitman Hughes

Dorothy Pitman Hughes was a pronounced feminist, activist, and artist; this art contest is designed to highlight her life and legacy though visual media art.

LBCC students should submit their art entry by April 15th, 2024 to Building K, Room 101B.

Art submissions can use any media, such as: painting, drawing, digital media, clay, photography, sculpture, jewelry, etc. All submissions may be showcased in the T Building lobby (T1100).

Award Ceremony and refreshments will be held on May 8th, 2024, from 12pm-2pm in the T Building Lobby (T1100). Contact Janet Hund at jhund@lbcc.edu for more information.

Meet Your Village
Friday, March 8, 12pm – 3pm, LAC-Softball Field

Come Meet your Village by supporting our LBCC Women’s Softball team! Join us for a fun tailgate at 12pm and stay for the game. The first pitch will be at 12:30pm and the game starts at 1pm! See you there! Go Vikings!

Beyond the Box: Rosie the Riveter; Beyond the Poster
Wednesday, March 13, 11:10am – 12:30pm, LAC – T1300

Join history professor, Dr. Vanessa Crispin-Peralta, for snacks and a discussion about the many different women who worked to support the war effort on the home front during WWII and how these “Rosies” impacted the experiences of working women long after the war ended.

Keeping it 100
Tuesday, March 19, 1pm – 2pm, LAC – T1200

In partnership with Workforce Development: Open discussion with industry professionals who identify as women in the community about life, career, family, and a healthy balance. Food will be provided on a first come, first serve basis.

Film Screening of “Barbie”
Wednesday, March 20, 12pm-3pm, LAC-E Building, Nordic Lounge

In collaboration with ASB, come to a free screening of “Barbie” and enjoy some free pizza, popcorn, and drinks!

No Mas Bebes - no more babies Screening & Discussion 
Wednesday, March 20, 12:00pm-3:00pm, LAC-T1200

No Más Bebés is a documentary of the story of immigrant mothers who sued county doctors, the state, and the U.S. government after they were pushed into sterilizations while giving birth at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center during the 1960s and 70s.

Women’s History Month ‘Zine Jamboree
Wednesday, March 27, 1pm-3pm, LAC-T1300

Drop in and celebrate ‘zines and make your own pages in honor of Women’s History Month. We will provide the supplies, including relevant ‘zines, so all you need is your creativity.
