The LBCC Kinesiology Program will provide you with relevant educational opportunities, prepare you to make healthy choices throughout your lifespan, and develop your career opportunities. Choosing Kinesiology for a class or as a major provides you with the ability to explore movement and investigate wellness. Undergirding the entire Kinesiology program is the concept that the study of exercise is relevant to almost any human endeavor. You will not only exercise but also will be introduced to topics related to exercise such as movement mechanics, nutrition, injury prevention, and wellness enhancement. This program serves all students, regardless of age, fitness level, or previous experience.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Kinesiology has many practical applications leading to a variety of rewarding careers as a physical education teacher, athletic trainer, personal fitness trainer, athletic scout, lifeguard, or camp counselor. Applications in the sport and exercise industries include sports management and marketing, sports psychology, coaching, and specialized fitness training in the commercial health and fitness industry. Many kinesiology majors go on to graduate programs in exercise science and physical therapy.

Plan Code: 5004B/5004C – The Associate in Arts in Kinesiology for Transfer (A.A.-T.) degree is designed to prepare students with a general education in the principles, concepts, and methodologies of Kinesiology. This degree is designed to increase students’ awareness, understanding and knowledge of the broad range of career paths within the field of Kinesiology and to prepare them for seamless transfer to a California State University.

Plan Code: 1701 – A Kinesiology Associates Degree prepares students for entry-level positions as physical activity specialists in fitness, health, and medical settings (i.e. health clubs, rehabilitative exercise centers, sports medicine clinics); educational settings (i.e. elementary and secondary schools); and community service agencies (e.g. YMCAs, Boys and Girls Clubs, neighborhood recreation centers, private and public camps).

Physical activity is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. Kinesiology activity courses will provide you with opportunities to gain current knowledge of physical fitness facts, healthful living practices, leisure time pursuits, stress management techniques, and to receive instruction in the skills necessary for your successful participation in activities necessary maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
Most activity courses are offered for 1-unit credit each. Students may apply these course units toward fulfillment of various degree requirements, the local general education requirement, or add one to your schedule to reach a total unit value need. How long does it take to complete the program?
Depending on the number of units you take and whether you are a full-time or part-time student, completing a certificate program can take as little as one semester and completing an associate degree program can take about two years.
