Test of Essential Academic Skills

Pod

The TEAS score is required for application to the Nursing Program.

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is a standardized entrance exam used by nursing programs across the country to evaluate a student’s readiness for the academic demands of nursing school. The exam assesses skills in reading comprehension, English language usage, math, and science, focusing on foundations that are critical for success in health care education.

LBCC now accepts TEAS scores from online exams taken directly through ATI. Please note that we accept only the first TEAS score a student earns within one year of application, so preparing thoroughly before testing is very important.

LBCC no longer offers the TEAS exam.  We do accept the online TEAS taken through ATI (www.atitesting.com).

To help students feel confident and ready, LBCC offers noncredit, no-fee TEAS preparation courses:

TEAS 600: English and Reading

TEAS 605: Math and Science

These free prep courses provide targeted review and practice to support students before taking the exam.

Frequently Asked Questions for TEAS

How old can my ATI TEAS score be?

Your ATI TEAS score must be taken within t1 year of the application deadline. Scores older than one year

 are not accepted.

What if I took the TEAS three years ago and passed?

If your score is older than one year, it cannot be used for application purposes. You will need to retake the exam.

What is the minimum passing score?

The minimum composite passing score for ATI TEAS is 62.

If I pass with a 62, can I retake the TEAS to get a higher score?

No. Once you earn a passing score, that score is considered final for selection purposes. Retesting to improve a passing score is not permitted.

What if I fail the TEAS?

Students who do not meet the minimum composite score may not apply to the nursing program. You may complete approved remediation and then retake the exam.

If I remediate and retake the TEAS, which score is used?

If your first attempt was below the minimum passing score and you completed approved remediation, the new passing score may be accepted. See remediation courses above.

Why does LBCC only accept the first passing score?

This policy is based on the BRN and ACEN recommendations and ensures fairness, consistency, and readiness for nursing coursework. The purpose of the TEAS is to determine minimum preparedness, not to allow multiple attempts to raise scores.
