Accessibility Information for Commencement Guests

Post

At Long Beach City College, we are proud to celebrate this milestone with graduates, families, and friends. We are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible commencement experience for all guests. Please review the information below to help you plan your visit.

Accessible Entrance – Gate 14

Guests with disabilities are encouraged to enter through Gate 14, our designated ADA entrance. This entrance provides the most direct access to accessible seating areas, communication access services, and support staff.

Accessible Seating

Accessible seating is available for guests who:

  • Use wheelchairs or assistive mobility devices
  • Have mobility limitations that significantly impact walking long distances
  • Require ASL interpretation or captioning services
  • Have visual impairments that significantly limit mobility

Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

To access accessible seating, please check in at one of the DSP&S tents located at both the accessible entrance (Gate 14) and the main stadium entrance. Guests will receive an accessible seating wristband at check-in.

Companion Seating
Each accessible seating location includes space for one companion. Additional members of your party are welcome to sit in nearby general seating areas.

Arrival Time

We encourage guests who may need additional time or assistance to arrive early. Early arrival allows time to check in, receive wristbands, and comfortably access seating before the ceremony begins.

Upon arrival, we will have cart services on a first come first serve basis to assist guests to traverse the parking lot.

ADA Parking will be available for guests with placards.

American Sign Language (ASL) & Captioning (CART) Services

Commencement will include communication access services at no cost:

  • ASL Interpreters will be present and visible from designated seating areas. Interpreters will also be stationed near the front platform for graduates participating on the field.
  • Closed Captioning (CART) will be displayed on video boards throughout the venue.
  • A designated seating section is available for guests who require interpretation and/or captioning services.

To access these designated areas, please check in at a DSP&S tent upon arrival to receive an accessible seating wristband.

Service Animals

Trained service animals are welcome at Viking Stadium. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a service animal is defined as a dog individually trained to perform tasks or provide assistance to a person with a disability.

Service animals must:

  • Remain harnessed, leashed, or tethered at all times (unless special circumstances apply)
  • Stay within the seating area of the guest they are assisting
  • Not occupy aisles

Please note that emotional support or comfort animals are not recognized as service animals under the ADA and are not permitted in the stadium.

Wheelchair Rentals

Please note that the college does not provide wheelchairs. Families who may need wheelchair rentals are encouraged to contact a local provider in advance of the ceremony.

We look forward to celebrating this important achievement with you and ensuring that every guest feels welcomed, supported, and included. Congratulations to the Class of 2026!
