The California Youth Leadership
Public Health Fellowship
The California Youth Leadership Corps (CYLC), in partnership with Long Beach City College (LBCC), has launched a nine-month “learn-and-earn” fellowship program in Public and Community Health aimed to prepare historically marginalized youth and community members to become community organizers, change agents, and leaders in their local communities. Along with supporting participants in pursuing a postsecondary credential, this program will engage student fellows in meaningful experiential learning with nonprofit organizations and other community partners, leadership development workshops, and other enrichment activities.
This pathway provides students with a foundation for a future career in public health, health education, and other health-related fields. Students will participate in a cohort model that provides work-based learning opportunities and professional development activities. Participants will also earn the LBCC Health Education Promotion (HEP) Certificate of Achievement.
Qualifications:
Those who are interested in this hands-on fellowship program must be an active Long Beach City College student with at least 6 units per semester and 18-24 years of age. Interested applicants must major in either Health Care, social justice, sociology, or general Public Health to be considered into the program. Participants are expected to complete three Public Health courses by the end of the program as they work towards obtaining their Health Education and Promotion Certificate.
