Program Overview: 

Earn your Class A Driver’s License in just 4 weeks! This comprehensive 4-week, 160-hour course provides individuals with behind-the-wheel truck-driving training and the skills necessary to pass the California Commercial Truck Class “A” Driver’s License written and driving exam. To earn your Class “A” Driver’s License, you must take the written and driving test at the California DMV, which will be scheduled by your instructor. To register for this training, you must be at least 21 years old and have a standard and valid California Class C Driver’s License. Upon enrollment, you will be provided with guidance on how to obtain a California Commercial Learner’s Permit before the first day of class.

This training prepares drivers for high-demand careers in commercial truck driving, hauling various materials to support the local Supply Chain Industry. Graduates will have the ability to transport dry or refrigerated goods, ocean containers, and learn how to obtain endorsements such as Hazardous Materials and Tanker. Average Salary: $72,000

The training program cost $5,595.

Required Courses

Week 1: Classroom Training

This in-class training is a refresher course that introduces students to the basics of safe, commercial vehicle operation. Students will learn about the various regulations and compliance of motor carrier safety regulations, trip planning, cargo handling, understanding size, and weight laws. This includes general maintenance procedures, hours of service regulations, and how to obtain a Hazardous Material endorsement.  

Weeks 2-4: Behind-The-Wheel

This two-week training provides students with hands-on driving skills needed to safely operate a commercial vehicle. Students will learn how to perform proper vehicle inspections, defensive driving techniques, range maneuvers, and strategies for accident prevention.

Grievance Procedure

The CDL Training Program is committed to maintaining a fair and respectful learning environment. Students who have concerns related to instruction, grading, communication, or any part of the program may follow the steps below. 

  1. Informal Resolution
    Students are encouraged to first discuss the concern directly with the instructor when possible. Many issues can be resolved quickly through clarification or conversation. 

  2. Filing a Formal Grievance
    If the issue is not resolved informally, or if the student prefers not to speak with the instructor, they may submit a formal grievance. The grievance should include:

    – Student name and contact information
    – Course name and session dates 
    – Description of the issue 
    – Any steps already taken
    – Desired outcome

  3. Review Process
    A Workforce Development staff member will acknowledge receipt within 5 business days, review the concern, and provide a written response within 10–15 business days

  4. Appeal 
    If the student is unsatisfied with the decision, they may submit a written appeal within 10 business days. The Program Manager or designee will review the appeal and issue a final decision. 

  5. Confidentiality and Non-Retaliation 
    All grievances will be handled as confidentially as possible. Students who raise concerns in good faith will not experience retaliation or negative impact on their course participation.
