LBCC Assessment Center
Guided Placement Tool, Chemistry & ESL Assessments
LBCC has Assessment Centers on each campus. The Assessment Centers are here to assist students with any questions related to their placement information in English, Reading, Math, and/or ESL.
Guided Placement Tool
The Guided Placement Tool is an online questionnaire that is completed by the student to help inform placements in English, Reading, Math, and/or ESL. Students will receive the link to the Guided Placement Tool in their LBCC welcome letter (the welcome letter is sent via email approximately 24 hours after application). Students can also access the Guided Placement Tool in their Viking Student System in the “to do” box on the right-hand side of the page.
After students complete and submit the Guided Placement Tool, placement information will be available in their Viking Student System under the To Do section in 24 hours. Students will need to use their LBCC ID and password to access the Viking System system.
If students have questions about their placements, they can contact the Assessment Center on either campus.
The Assessment Center administers individual assessments for Chemistry by appointment. This is a 45-minute paper and pencil test. Scientific calculators are not allowed. Completion of this assessment will place a student in either Chemistry 1A (General Chemistry) or Chemistry 2 (Elementary Chemistry).
Please call the Assessment Center at LAC to schedule an appointment.
What Should Students Bring for the Chemistry Assessment?
- A valid picture ID (no picture ID, no test, no exceptions)
- LBCC Student ID#
- Two #2 pencils
You can obtain your LBCC Student ID # by completing an LBCC Online Application for Admission. Any questions about Admissions Application or LBCC Student ID # go to Admissions Office LAC A-1075 OR PCC GG-102 or call (562) 938-4485.
If a student has limited English language skills, they are directed to take the LBCC ESL placement test. This test has 85 multiple choice questions which are divided into the following six components: Listening Comprehension, Vocabulary, Fluency, Mechanics and Usage, Reading for Information, and Writing. This test is administered at PCC only through the ESL Department. It is required to make an appointment in order to take the test.
For test appointments, please go to or contact the ESL Office.
