APID Heritage Month Kick-Off

Join us as we kick off Asian Pacific Islander Desi Heritage Month with music, food, entertainment, and fellowship! Beyond the Box: Beyond a Legacy of Firsts: Homemaking in Academia as a Khmer American Daughter and Scholar

Dr. Varaxy Yi is a Khmer American scholar, first-generation college student, and child of refugees.  As a first and eldest daughter, she has navigated higher education and academic to fight for and create a home for her Khmer and Southeast Asian American community.  In this talk, Dr. Yi narrates her experience navigating higher education as a first daughter to earning tenure as the first Khmer American woman to do so at Fresno State.  Additionally, Dr. Yi provides an overview of her research on advancing racial justice in education for Southeast Asian American college students.  Presented in partnership with Ethnic Studies.


APID Club’s “Night Market”

“The Night Market” is LBCC APID Student Club’s adaptation of the 626 Night Market as an attempt to share APID diversity and richness in culture through APID themed cuisine. Please join us in celebrating APID Heritage month with a meal or a snack as all proceeds will go directly back to the student clubs and organizations fundraising in this event.


“MANA Idol” Karaoke Night

Join us for “MANA Idol” Karaoke night.  One winner will be honored and food will be provided by Aunty Maile’s Hawaiian restaurant.


Keeping it 100

Date/Time: Tuesday, May 14, 3pm-4pm
Location: LAC- T1200

To “Keep It 100″ means to keep it as real as possible and that is exactly what this panel will be doing.  This is an open discussion with industry professionals about life, career, how to overcome obstacles, and offer useful tips on navigating spaces that may not have been designed for individuals who identify as part of the APID community.
