Common Course Numbering

Effective Fall 2025

Starting Fall 2025, Long Beach City College is using California’s Common Course Numbering (CCN) system for select transfer-level courses.

This means some course names and numbers have changed, but the course content and transferability have not. Visit the California Community College’s Chancellor’s Office for more information about the statewide initiative.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU:

  • The same courses now have the same names and numbers across California community colleges.
  • This makes it easier to transfer and plan your classes.
  • Changes apply to both new and continuing students.

Use the list below to find your previous course number and its new CCN equivalent.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Common Course Numbering (CCN)?

Rooted in legislation in California (AB1111) it’s a statewide initiative requiring California community colleges to use the same course number and prefix for select courses that may be transfer-level, general education, and high enrolled. The courses are identified in three phases.

Does this mean I have to retake any classes?

No. All completed coursework remains valid toward your degree and transfer goals.

What if I already planned my schedule?

Courses will appear under their new numbers in the class schedule and Degree Planner. If you’re unsure, please meet with a counselor.

Will this affect my transfer plans?

It will improve transfer clarity and streamline articulation with CSU and UC campuses.
