LAC Student Housing
The new student housing facility planned for the LBCC Liberal Arts Campus (LAC), marks a transformative step in the college’s evolution as a vibrant student community where every student has the opportunity to achieve their goals. The student housing complex will provide an on-campus residence hall experience that supports student health, safety, and well-being while creating affordable housing that offers stability and support for students in need. The 93,000 square foot complex will include 431 beds in a mix of studio, single, and double-bed units; a variety of study, lounge and meeting spaces; shared kitchen and laundry rooms; and indoor and outdoor gathering spaces. Located at the corner of Clark Avenue and Lew Davis Street, the new housing will be oriented to provide visibility and access to the center of campus, adjacent Public Safety, nearby athletic fields, and the new Stadium and Athletic Sports Complex. The project budget is $127 million.
The project team includes Swinerton as the general contractor and AC Martin as the project architect. LBCCD’s bond management company, the Cordoba Corporation, oversees project management for LBCC.

Community-Focused Design
Throughout the design process of the new student housing facility, LBCC has worked to adapt the project to mitigate impacts to the surrounding community. Some of these steps include:
- Ensuring lighting does not spill over beyond the property line
- Smaller windows for Clark Avenue-facing units
- Reduction of building height facing Clark Avenue from four floors to three
- Removing student entry from Clark Avenue
- Landscape and outdoor architectural design enhancements and murals to support residential, rather than institutional, feel of facility
- Location of digital display moved to Lew Davis Street instead of Clark Avenue.
- Softening adjustments to building setback at corner of Lew Davis Street and Clark Avenue
- Moved rooftop patio to far west end of facility to alleviate potential noise or disruption
- Conducting a parking and traffic study, which is set to be completed in Summer 2026.
Planning for Enhanced Services and Support
To plan for the new 24/7 operations required for student housing, the District has budgeted for additional services and support, including:
- Increased security
- Additional maintenance and landscaping staff, and
- New student services professionals
