Floral Design

The Floral Design Program prepares students in a comprehensive vocational program for the Floral Industry. This program focuses on floral industry management, retail skills, and behind the scenes information. It is designed to give students a strong, basic foundation in the retail management as well as the hands-on skills of floral design, and current trends as needed for employment as a floral designer.

Topics covered include floral design floral, design history and new trends, floral identification, arrangement pricing, customer service, and conflict resolution.

Students gain valuable hands-on experience making basic event and seasonal floral arrangements. Students take home practice arrangements after each class.

The Floral Design program is the development of student competency for employment as floral designers. Students prepare for employment as floral designers. Students completing this Certificate of Achievement will also have the basic knowledge to become a salesperson, manager, or owner of a floral shop. The certificate will help students prepare for CCF (California Certified Florist) and AIFD (American Institute of Floral Design) certification.

What supplies do I need?

Supplies like tools and containers will be available for purchase. First-class you can purchase all tools, one time only, but containers change with each class.

What about lab fees?

Lab fees included in your registration, are for flowers only. All lab fees are included in all floral design classes, except FLO289 Shop Operations which is strictly a lecture class.

How long does it take to complete the program?

Depending on the number of units you take and whether you are a full-time or part-time student, completing a certificate program can take as little as one semester, and completing an associate degree program can take about two years.
