LBCC Raises Pride Flag in Honor of Harvey Milk Day
During a ceremony today, May 20, Long Beach City College celebrated Harvey Milk Day by raising the Pride flag for the first time in College history. The Pride flags at the Pacific Coast Campus and Liberal Arts Campus will remain until the end of June, which is the month nationally recognized as Pride Month.
Basic Needs Grant Comes to LBCC Foundation Just in Time for the Winter Break
The California Community College Foundation’s CARES for Food Security fund (LA County CARES Funding) recently awarded the Long Beach City College Foundation with a $275,000 grant to assist students with Basic Needs services.
Funds enabled the LBCC Foundation to purchase six commercial refrigeration units that will allow the Basic Needs Office to provide perishable goods to students at both campuses. Generous gift cards for food were also provided to more than 1,250 students to use during the Winter intersession.
LBCC Icon Honored with Posthumous Doctorate
England’s Durham University recently conferred an honorary Doctorate of Letters honoris causa to the late Mary Thoits, a much beloved leader for Long Beach City College lifelong learners.
The ceremony took place over Zoom on March 11, originating on the Northern England campus with the Vice-Chancellor, the University Warden, and staff. Family, friends, and students of Dr. Thoits were able to witness the ceremony from the United States.
Randy Totorp Returns to LBCC as Athletics Director
Randy Totorp, the former Long Beach City College head coach who led the men’s volleyball team to three state championships, has been selected to return as the College’s Athletic Director.
The decision was approved by the Long Beach Community College District (LBCCD) Board of Trustees on Wed., March 24 during their monthly Board meeting.
Some LBCC Classes to Return to In-Person Instruction for 2021 Fall Semester
Long Beach City College announced that up to 30-35 percent of the 2021 Fall Semester classes will return to in-person instruction. Each class will be capped up to 50 percent capacity. Fall Semester will take place Aug. 30 – Dec. 18, 2021.
LBCC Announces Keynote Speaker for 2021 Virtual Commencement
Long Beach City College (LBCC) announced that Long Beach Mayor Dr. Robert Garcia will be the keynote speaker for the 2021 Commencement Ceremony.
Garcia has been a symbol of leadership and first-hand experience throughout the coronavirus pandemic this past year.
