Latinx Cultural Heritage

Overview

Latinx Cultural Heritage

At LBCC we recognize that Latinx students, and the many rich cultures collectively embodied within this umbrella term, are an integral part of our community, and we value your unique needs. There are several resources at LBCC and the larger Long Beach community that can support your personal well-being, academic progress, and social life. Below are a few resources you may find helpful.

Long Beach City College is designated a Hispanic Sering Institution (HSI) with 56% of its student body identifying as Latinx. Intentional efforts to not only enroll but genuinely serve our Latinx students have resulted in positive outcomes, reducing equity gaps across many success metrics. In recognition of these efforts, Long Beach City College was the proud recipient of the Seal of Excelencia in 2020, becoming the first California Community College to receive this distinction. Excelencia in Education is the nation’s premier authority on efforts accelerating Latino student success in higher education and recognizes institutions for their unwavering commitment to producing equitable outcomes for Latinx students based on the following:

  • Evidence of effectiveness and intentionality in institutional practices serving Latino students
  • Positive momentum for Latino student progress in their data
  • Dedication to transforming the institution into an environment where Latino students thrive
  • Strategies in leadership that clearly articulate institutional focus on advancing Latino student success
