LBCC Announces 2018 Hall of Fame Inductees

A Long Beach City Councilmember, a veteran law enforcement commander, an educator who continues to give back to the community college he served, and an attorney who is recognized in her expertise in special education law, have been named as Long Beach City College’s 2018 Hall of Fame inductees, LBCC officials recently announced.

This year’s honorees are: Long Beach City Councilmember Dee Andrews; Seal Beach Police Commander Stephen Bowles; community volunteer and retired LBCC educator Dr. John Fylpaa; and attorney Janeen Steel.

Free Coding Boot Camp for Young Women

Long Beach City College is offering a free boot camp workshop series geared towards young women in high school, grades 10 through 12. This boot camp aims to give young women exposure to different career opportunities available within the computer science field while teaching them how to code.

Long Beach Transit Zap Line 176 on Summer Break

Long Beach City College students who frequently utilize Long Beach Transit’s “Zap” line will have an alternate bus schedule this summer to travel between the College’s Pacific Coast Campus (PCC) and Liberal Arts Campus (LAC). This schedule is effective now through Aug. 19.

According to Long Beach Transit representatives, the fastest route from PCC is to take bus line 71 or 72, heading north on Orange Ave. and to transfer to bus line 101 or 103 heading East on Carson St. towards LAC (and in reverse when traveling from LAC to PCC).

Community Gathers at LBCC to Celebrate 90th Anniversary

More than 300 supporters of the Long Beach City College arrived at a red carpet on June 16 to celebrate the College’s 90th Anniversary.

The Central Quad at the Liberal Arts Campus was transformed into a swanky gala for attendees. While dressed in 1920s-inspired clothing, many guests bid on silent auction items that were comprised of unique adventures that could only be experienced in Long Beach or with Long Beach City College.
