LBCCD Board of Trustees to Meet at Pacific Coast Campus Jan. 23

The Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees will convene at the Pacific Coast Campus for its January 23 public meeting. This is a change from the usual Board meeting location at the Liberal Arts Campus. 

In addition, the Board of Trustees meetings have also changed the day of the week and the start time. Meetings are now on the second or fourth Wednesday of the month, instead of the second or fourth Tuesday. Closed sessions will start at 4:30 p.m., and open session will start at 5:30 p.m.

LBCC Named Finalist for Prestigious Bellwether Award
First time in College history to be a finalist for an award that recognizes the most innovative community colleges in the country

Long Beach City College has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious 2019 Bellwether Award at the upcoming Community College Futures Assembly. The Bellwether Awards are the nation’s most competitive and prestigious recognition awards given to community colleges to recognize outstanding and innovative programs or practices.

Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees New Meeting Days and Times for 2019

The Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees recently voted to change its meeting nights and start time in 2019. Board meetings will now meet on the second and/or fourth Wednesdays of each month at 5:30 p.m., with closed session meetings beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The change in the day of the week is to avoid conflicts with other city council and school board meeting dates. The change of time is to allow more people time to attend a meeting after work.

LBCC Designated as National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education

Long Beach City College has been named a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE2Y) by the National Security Agency (NSA). LBCC is only the third California Community College to receive this designation.

The NSA reviewed LBCC’s cybersecurity program last spring and determined that LBCC is providing rigorous instruction with the most current cybersecurity industry trends to students.

LBCC Announces Tuition-Free Second Year Through LBCC Foundation

During the monthly Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees meeting held on Nov. 13, college officials announced that LBCC will expand its tuition-free education to two years to all qualified Long Beach Unified School District students starting fall of 2019. The funding for the second year will be provided by the Long Beach City College Foundation.
