Adult Learners
Adult learners, specifically indirect matriculants (IDMs), are students who did not enroll in college immediately upon high school completion and did not enroll in any other college/university before starting at LBCC.
Long Beach City College is committed to helping Adult Learners/Indirect Matriculant students successfully navigate the college system and achieve their educational and career goals. The Postsecondary Achievement and Success Opportunity (PASO) and Success & Completion Achievement Network (SCAN) programs offer students additional support and promote academic success.

Peer Navigators are available in person or virtually during regular business office hours. To view our schedule, please refer to the hours of operation.
Please also visit us on Tuesday’s from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at LAC B-203 (FYE Center) for Spring 2026.
Program Information
- The PASO Program serves first-time IDMs ages 18-24, prioritizing Hispanic and low-income IDMs.
- The SCAN Program serves Adult Learners/IDMs enrolling in college for the first time at the age of 25 years or older, prioritizing students of color.
