Pell Grant Disbursement and Enrollment Intensity
Long Beach City College uses a three-disbursement model, disbursing 30% of a student’s Pell award at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters, a second payment of 20% of a student’s Pell award during the second month of the semester and the final 50% of the award after the financial aid census date.
The Financial Aid Office will disburse Pell Grants based on Enrollment Intensity, defined as the percentage of full-time enrollment a student is taking. Enrollment Intensity is calculated by dividing the number of units a student is taking by the full-time enrollment credit hours (12 units at LBCC) and multiplying by 100%.

Financial Aid Census Date (FA Census Date)/Pell Recalculation Date (PRD)
For the Financial Aid Office, FA Census Date serves as determining financial aid eligibility award amounts by locking in each student’s enrollment unit/load and for Pell recalculation purposes.
Students who register for LBCC prior to “FA Census Date/PRD” will need to be enrolled in all courses on or before the Financial Aid Census Date for those courses to be included in their Financial Aid award calculation.
All courses enrolled in after “FA Census Date” will not count towards their Financial Aid eligible units. Students who register for LBCC after the Financial Aid Census Date will receive credit for all courses enrolled in at the time of their initial packaging for Financial Aid.
If a student adds additional courses after the Census Date, the student can contact the Financial Aid Office to explore if additional financial assistance is available.
Students who withdraw from all classes or receive a grade or combination of “F, W, EW or NP”, in all classes, will be subject to a federal grant eligibility calculation that may result in financial aid funds having to be repaid to LBCC and/or the Department of Education. FA Census dates for 25-26 are as follows

- Spring 2026 - April 14, 2026
