Maritime Center of Excellence

Maritime Center of Excellence

The Port of Long Beach’s Maritime Center of Excellence at Long Beach City College is a program that provides professional development for individuals who want to develop or enhance their knowledge and skills in the supply chain/logistics sector.

These short-term and highly intensive classes have content aligned to industry-specific occupations, such as:

  • Logistics Specialist
  • Dispatcher
  • Logistics Manager
  • Transportation Supervisor

While this program does not provide job placement services, the content has been designed by industry professionals who know what skills and knowledge are needed to work in the industry and should enhance your existing skillset, no matter your experience in the industry, as well as your marketability. To further enhance your skillsets, customer service for logistics/supply chain modules are embedded into most classes, as are professional networking components and “resume refresh” modules. Some classes also include, at no additional cost, the opportunity to test and earn an industry-recognized credential offered by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.

This program benefits from funding supplied by the Port of Long Beach, as well as the California Community Colleges Los Angeles Region Priority Sectors Global Trade and Advanced Transportation and Logistics, to keep the cost as low as possible.

However, in these economic times, we recognize that not everyone has the resources to afford the full cost of a class. To that end, the Maritime Center of Excellence Scholarship was established to provide additional support to individuals who demonstrate financial need. Scholarship amounts vary, depending on the financial need expressed in the Needs Statement.

To apply, please complete the online application. Priority will be given to applicants that demonstrate a financial need and indicate a commitment to pursuing a career in the goods movement sector.

All cancellations must be via email or telephone within 48 hours of the start of the seminar/workshop date. No refunds will be provided for a cancellation of a confirmed registration within the 48-hour period before the class start date.
