Support Programs
CalWORKs (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility for Kids) is the state’s welfare-to-work program for families with children. The Long Beach City College CalWORKs Program works in collaboration with the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) to assist students with education, training and job skills.
Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is a state funded community college program that provides “over and above” services to Long Beach City College students from social, economic, educational or language disadvantaged backgrounds. The program supports enrollment, retention, transfer of students, and helps facilitate the successful completion of their educational goals.
The Foster Youth Support Services Program at Long Beach City College is dedicated to supporting current and former foster youth students to provide a smooth transition into college. Our team is committed to creating a caring, equitable, and inclusive community where all foster youth can attain their educational, career, and personal goals. We aim to provide a “One-Stop-Shop” that offers personalized assistance with educational goals by offering holistic services such as academic counseling, personal support, book grants, and referrals to LBCC and community resources.
The Foster & Kinship Care Education Program is a statewide program funded by the California Community College Chancellor’s Office, providing a variety of training programs for foster parents (parent education), and specialized training for relative caregivers. Long Beach City College works with many agencies and programs to provide resources and support for current and transition-age youth and resource families.
Project Launch & GO Project
The LBCC TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Programs—Project Launch and the Growth and Opportunities (GO) Project—are federally funded initiatives supported by the U.S. Department of Education. These programs are designed to uplift and support students throughout their college journey by empowering them to overcome challenges and achieve their goals through individualized guidance and access to resources.
The Upward Bound Program provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The goal of the Long Beach City College TRiO Upward Bound Program is to prepare high school students from the Long Beach Unified School District area as they enroll in and successfully complete a post-secondary education program. The Program accomplishes this objective by enhancing participants’ academic skills, personal motivation and confidence, needed to succeed in college.
