TRIO GO Project

The Long Beach City College Growth and Opportunities (GO) Project is a Student Support Services Project funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The GO Project is designed to increase the number of students with disabilities who transfer to four-year colleges and universities. The GO Project is a comprehensive program of academic support and personal development services for low-income, first-generation college, and disabled students to achieve retention and graduation rates that exceed that of the general student body. The GO Project serves as the campus home base for this group of students. The main principle of the project fosters and develops a supportive academic community and campus climate both within the project and with the college at large.

A major advantage of GO Project participation is services and activities that are tailored to meet the specific individual needs of each student. These may include but are not limited to Academic & Transfer Counseling, assistance with college transfer, university campus visits, scholarship applications, tutoring, cultural enrichment and field trips, study and life skills workshops, Career & Life Counseling, financial education, and much more!

Academic & Transfer Counseling Services

One of the best parts of working with the GO Project is that we offer students the luxury of time.  Because our student population is small, appointments are generally easy to make and can last for an hour, rather than the brief 30-minute appointments offered in the Counseling or DSPS Offices.

Academic and transfer counseling begins with educational goal-setting, exploring educational options and opportunities, evaluating educational background, and providing the student with clear, concise and up-to-date educational information of all types.

The GO Project can provide a limited number of tutors above and beyond those available in the Success Centers and Learning and Academic Resources. We do our best to find an appropriate tutor, however, sometimes tutors are not available for all subjects.

The GO Project offers tutoring services at PCC in GG-217. Please contact the GO Project office to schedule an appointment.

Cultural Enrichment & Field Trips

At the GO Project we believe in balancing classroom learning with fun, experiential learning outside of the classroom. To this end, we plan field trips and cultural enrichment activities several times each academic year. Examples of field trips have included: The Museum of Latin American Art, The Peterson Automotive Museum, The Chinese American Museum, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising Museum, Olvera Street, and Downtown Los Angeles historical tour.
