Veronica Alvarez
Assistant Professor, Foreign Languages

Verónica Álvarez was born in East Los Angeles and raised in California. As a First-Generation College student, she attended a local Community College, then transferred to the University of California system, and earned her BA in Spanish. During her undergraduate work, she earned the Tomás Rivera Scholar Award for scholastic achievement from the Senate of California. Additionally, she studied abroad in Cuba with the University of California, Davis at the renowned Casa de las Américas Institute.

Marie-Laure Hinton
Professor, French & Spanish

Dr. Hinton was born and raised in France and also lived in Spain, Belgium and Switzerland. After graduating in Physics from the University of Montpellier and in Marketing from I.U.T in France, she relocated to the United States. In 1997, she received a B.S. in General Physics from CSU, Dominguez Hills, a Masters in French Literature in 1998 and a B.A. in Spanish and Linguistics in 1999 from CSU, Long Beach with highest honors. She completed her Ph.D. at UCLA’s French and Francophone Studies Department.

Rigo Ibarra
Professor, Italian & Spanish

Professor Rigo Ibarra was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and grew up in the Venice, California area. He received his BA in Spanish and Linguistics with honors, his MA. and his Candidate in Philosophy (C Phil) in Romance Linguistics and Literatures with high honors from University of California at Los Angeles with a major in Spanish and a minor in Italian, French, and Portuguese. In the past, he has taught at the University of California at Los Angeles, University of California at Santa Cruz, Cabrillo College, El Camino College and California State University at Long Beach.

Charlotte Jackson
Professor, French & Spanish

Charlotte Jackson has over twenty years of teaching experience in French, Spanish, and ESL at the college and university levels.  She earned two B.A. degrees (in French and Spanish) as well as an M.A. degree in Spanish from CSU, Sacramento. Her M.A. degree in French is from UC Santa Barbara, where she was awarded the top prize (a scholarship to Quebec). In addition to travel to France, Belgium and Luxemburg, she has studied abroad in Quebec, Mexico (Michoacan), and Costa Rica.
